About

The Greening Transportation Infrastructure Development (GRID) Integrated Program (IP) is a $27 million program funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). National projects led by government agencies and other organizations in Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Suriname, and Ukraine aim to balance transportation infrastructure needs with safeguarding, conserving, and restoring biodiversity and mitigating climate change. GRID is led by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in partnership with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Running from 2025 to 2031, GRID will strengthen countries’ sustainable development of transportation infrastructure. A global platform will help the country projects and global infrastructure community build the knowledge and capacity to transform the sector with nature-positive approaches.

Country Projects

GRID's objective is to advance the transition toward sustainable transportation infrastructure that safeguards, conserves, and restores key coastal, marine, and terrestrial ecosystems. Five countries are executing projects under the program: Malaysia, Nepal, the Philippines, Suriname, and Ukraine.

Global Platform

The global platform will leverage partnerships worldwide to provide knowledge sharing and capacity building to participant countries and the global community to enhance nature-positive infrastructure approaches and innovation. Its main components are:

  • Facilitating capacity building and knowledge sharing, including through building a knowledge platform
  • Strengthening national and global levers for systems transformation, including policy alignment, data accessibility, and nature-positive infrastructure finance
  • Ensuring effective coordination and communications across the GRID IP

Send an expression of interest to be a knowledge partner to collaborate with GRID IP stakeholders to generate, share, and utilize knowledge. Knowledge partners have the opportunity to co-create and apply their expertise, knowledge, and perspective to solutions developed by GRID.
